Il nome “Paura” nell’italiano d’uso

This paper presents a descriptive application in the Lexicon-Grammar of the Italian language of the name paura (fear), with the assumption that the process of fear involves: 1) a subject who is afraid: Lia ha paura (Lia is afraid); 2) the cause of fear that can have the function of indirect object, as in the example Lia ha paura del temporale (Lia is afraid of the storm), or of a grammatical subject: Il temporale fa paura a Lia (The storm causes fear to Lia). Starting from the simple sentence Lia ha paura (Lia is afraid), constructions with the verb support avere (to have) and its variants were analyzed, to arrive at the constructions with the causative operator fare (to cause) and its variants.
