Testo, sintassi, traduzione. Un approccio linguistico alla traduzione della prosa scientifica italiana

The aim of the paper is to propose concrete solutions of the translation problems related to Italian humanistic scientific prose texts. We started from the assumption of the close correlation between the text type, its linguistic features and the strategies to be applied in the translation process. We tried to establish to which text type such prose belongs and what are its main linguistic and textual peculiarities in order to be able to deal, successfully, with translation problems by applying appropriate techniques and strategies. In order to preserve the fundamental characteristics of this text type and achieve the main goal of Italian Scientific Prose translation, universals were applied which mainly solve the problem of understanding its content and preserving textual clarity, while purely formal and aesthetic aspects of the text become secondary. In this paper we have analysed syntactic properties of Italian Scientific Prose from a translation perspective, aware that the lexical ones will also deserve special attention.
